Jon R. Boyd

Attorney at Law

Born and raised in Dallas, now residing near Fort Worth, Jon obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University, graduated with a Law degree from the University of Houston and was licensed to practice law in Texas in 1979. He has been in Family Law practice for over 40 years.

After many years as a solo practitioner, he was invited to join the firm of Cotten Schmidt, L.L.P., in Fort Worth, Texas, where he currently works as a Partner handling the Family Law matters for the firm. You can find him at CottenSchmidt.com.

In addition to his membership in the State Bar of Texas, Jon is admitted to practice in Federal District Court (Northern District of Texas) and holds or has held memberships in the American Bar Association, Texas Trial Lawyers’ Association, Tarrant County Bar Association, Collin County Bar Association, Dallas Bar Association, Denton County Bar Association, Hood County Bar Association and the National Association of Realtors. He has received recognition from the State Bar of Texas for his volunteer work and consistent participation in Continuing Legal Education.

Having practiced Family Law continuously in the Dallas-Ft. Worth- Collin Co.- Denton Co. and surrounding areas since 1979 and have tried hundreds of cases, including numerous jury trials, Jon has earned a solid reputation with the Bench, Bar and his clients as a highly-skilled and zealous advocate. Professionally, he strives to establish trusting and collegial relationships with all his clients and to keep them informed about their matters. For that, and his courtroom prowess, Jon has garnered many highly favorable reviews.

On a personal level, Jon co-parented and helped raise four children, now grown. He remains a devoted father and looks forward to grandchildren. Jon has had many hobbies and pursuits through the years, including being and working outdoors, shooting Sporting Clays, hunting, fishing, snow skiing, tennis, and other outdoor activities. He is also a private pilot who achieved his Instrument rating. Jon is also an avid reader and movie buff. His friends, co-workers, colleagues and clients find him to be hardworking and open, friendly, and honest.

Being a divorced father and having faced the challenges of being a father in the family law system, he has helped support and been proudly associated with Fathers for Equal Rights and the National Fathers Resource Center since 1995, where he has volunteered regularly. Jon is licensed to practice law but has elected not to seek the board certification available as an elective to members of the Bar.
