Texas Residence Restrictions

PDF Print

residenceRestrictions on where the child should live or who makes that decision are a critical component of family law. Should one parent be allowed to move with the child so far away that the other parent's opportunity to have a meaningful relationship with the child be jeopardized?

Until recent years, it was not uncommon for the custodial parent to have the absolute freedom to move with the child wherever he or she wished. However, laws are now in place that permit a judge or jury to impose a restriction on where the child is allowed to live.

At Boyd Family Law, we view this as a vitally important issue and have successfully tried this issue numerous times, often even getting a judge to order the custodial parent to move back to the area after the parent has already established a residence elsewhere.

You should not lose access to your child. If you need assistance with residence restrictions in Texas, contact family law attorney Jon Boyd now!
